Treatment writer. Scriptwriter. Director.
Occasional ad creative.
(Recovering South African soap star.)
My work is shaped by a life split between South Africa and the UK, and by a long-standing interest in identity, belonging and the stories we tell about ourselves.
After studying Performance and Creative Writing at WITS University in Johannesburg, I was cast as Renee Webb on the South African soap Scandal! Working closely with the head writer, we developed a storyline exploring Renee’s sexuality and self-acceptance. It was an early lesson in character, nuance and writing under pressure.
I moved to London with the hopes of “making it” as an actress. But instead I worked as a nanny, charity fundraiser, promo girl, temp receptionist, Jagermiester shot girl (horns and all) and a member of a “rent-a-crowd” service. I wrote, produced and performed my own short films and plays.
I was “discovered” while working on the reception desk at AMV. The in-house production team, Flare, took a chance on the brazen girl sneaking around the office on the weekends producing and directing a pilot for her webseries. This haiku secured my job as a creative. I worked on content for brands like HP and Nicorette and TVCs for Pepsi Max and Walkers Sensations. Being on-set was my ad school. I partnered with this beautiful human. Together we trolled Twitter and helped keep Pride celebrations alive during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Alongside commercial work, I have written award-winning short films, including Girl. London. Night., and plays that toured the UK and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Whatever the medium, my work balances social realism and satire, pairing emotionally grounded storytelling with a visceral style and flashes of dark humour.
